It is kind of interesting that one of the biggest liabilities for the N1 was the unreliability of its many engines. Nate Simpson: And the minimal amount of testing prior to the first launch, which I think is very Kerbal as well. I've heard it said that the N1 rocket design is an example of engineering comparable to some of the wild things players get up to in the Kerbal Space Program games: way too many boosters, very complicated, but also audacious at the same time. I hope at some point, somebody wealthy decides they want to build a life-size replica. And there's nothing to see! There's no tangible object to go visit. it's just the most insane rocket that's ever been built, and I wish I could behold it. The notion that I don't get to visit this thing, which was comparably large to the Saturn V - it actually had a larger core size for the first stage. I've heard that there was actually a couple of them that never flew and that were scrapped. But I have always thought it was a great tragedy that we never got to see an N1 rocket, the Soviet moon rocket, actually achieve orbit - let alone fly to the moon. That's like asking who’s your favorite child? In terms of pure capability, it's hard not to be in love with the Saturn V. If it's not too imposing a question to ask, what would you say your favorite real-life rocket ship is? Alternatively, you can always use a hybrid method and draw it yourself at a high resolution for good quality, then work through the rescaling and insertion. In the last interview, I talked with the developers at Squad about what their favorite real-life rocket ships are. This is a great method if you want to add high-quality flags. In the event that you have sucky drawing software, have an unsteady hand, or are just generally lazy, you can always download an image online - provided it has a width-to-height ratio of around 8:5, of course - use a website such as to scale it down (hopefully down) to a size of 256x160, and then just proceed with Stage Three. Until next time, have fun with your flags! Congratulations! It is now available to use in your Kerbal Space Program experience! Plant the flag on the Mun, plant it on Kerbol! Plant it on Jool! Plant it on its self! Hit it with a rocket! Put it into orbit!(Little known fact: flags have physics enabled! You can rocket propel a flag into orbit if you plant it just right!) But make sure that whatever you do, you don't kill Jeb. Finally, open the Flags folder and move the custom flag into this folder. Inside you should find a folder named Squad, open this also and you will come to a few more folders. Next, you must go to your KSP root directory!įind the folder named GameData, inside the root directory, and open it. This is the part that lets you actually use the flag! Huzzah! First, you must save your image as a PNG. Stage Three: Inserting the flag to your KSP directory! On the subject of the corgi photo: it is an obscure shape! If you are in the same predicament as me then you should consider taking color samples from the center before placing a dot, using that to line it up, and then adding the color back in its place. For my example I am using a photo of a corgi. You may need to scale it as the flag is rather small in comparison to most logos. 1, 3, 5, 109, etc.) then stretch the image by one pixel in either direction, if it is divisible by two then great! You're half way there! Now, insert it over the design. If its dimensions are indivisible by two (e.g. Going to the logo you wish to add, find the center. You may then color this white layer to match the logo/photo you want to put over it. You should then create a new layer and make it white set this layer below the previous layer. If you wish to draw it straight on great! You can do that and skip ahead to Stage Three, if not: Read on!Īssuming you are using a program with layering enabled, change the white to transparent (on you can do this by using the magic wand on the white and pressing delete). The correctly sized flag with a small center nodeĪt this point you have two options: Draw the design straight on or attach a logo.
